I was listening to Joni Mitchell’s “Amelia” when I started this painting. It’s a song about self-reflection, lost love and things that maybe weren’t ever meant to be. She speaks of Amelia Earhart and how they both had dreams of flight. Whether literally or in the case of stardom, Mitchell sings poetry:
The ghost of aviation, she was swallowed by the sky
Or by the sea, like me, she had a dream to fly
Like Icarus ascending on beautiful foolish arms
Amelia, it was just a false alarms
